Ludovic Maillard was born in 1970. After a 4 years-long journey around the world, where he shot a series of portraits on shepherds in Bolivia and a reportage on drugs used in Ethiopia, he came back to France in 2000, where he worked as the assistant to photographer Bruno Scotti at the Fond National d’Art Contemporain. From 2003 on, he participated in several exhibitions within the collective project “Territoires de Fictions”: he took part in the Rencontres d’Arles, at the Maison Européenne de la Photographie, at the exhibition at the Festival Transfotografia in Warsaw and at the Festival de Vendôme, as well as at the Cinéma MK2 Beaubourg, at the Galerie Loevenbruck, at Cabaret Sauvage.
He currently collaborates as a reporter for the magazines Regards, Quantara and for the internet site of “Le Monde”.
His pictures are the result of long marches: a point of departure and a destination, the rest being left to what the fate will bring. To get lost, to give up all preconceptions on what an image should be, to be wide open to all kinds of encounters and all kinds of landscapes, is his ideal way of photographing. On this ideal basis, he aims to create a modern portrait of his homeland, France.
