Marcelina CH.Kuberska studied interior design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Poznan, and is now working as a landscape designer and professional drawer in Poznan and Warsaw. She has also been engaged in experiments of citizen participation in Warsaw during the 11th Planet Congress in Warsaw in October 2007.
The presented drawings are the first phase of the “Olsztyn Identity Cycle”, which will include 50 large hand-drawn illustrations documenting the architectural fabric of the city of Olsztyn.
“…Olsztyn is the capital of Poland’s “green lung region”…Blocks of flats of the communist era overwhelm the old urban fabric. Here you don’t get crowds at night. You can have beer only in the old city, but no public transportation will bring you back home after midnight. So what do we celebrate? We celebrate the beautiful landscape that was accidentally left untouched by architects and urban planners, we celebrate every time some new development covering the legacy of the communist era appears. We also celebrate when we can afford having a crazy clubbing night around our five clubs and twenty pubs. I’d like citizens of Olsztyn to come out, participate in designing their own public spaces, give voice to their demands and dreams…
